Bobby Neall: The Right Choice for Change

May 13, 2016

ROCKVILLE, MD (May 13, 2016) - The Maryland Public Policy Institute today praised Governor Larry Hogan's decision to appoint former State Senator Robert R. Neall to the newly-created Office of Transformation and Renewal. The office will be responsible for recommending reforms that streamline state government and make it more responsive to citizens, families and job creators.

"Bobby Neall is a visionary," said Christopher B. Summers, president of the Institute. "He possesses a rare combination of executive experience, knowledge of government and capacity for transformational ideas that can push Maryland into the 21st Century.  We encourage legislators on both sides of the aisle to work with the Hogan Administration and Senator Neall to modernize state agencies that have failed to keep pace with citizen expectations for customer service."

The last major reorganization of Maryland state government took place nearly a half century ago, under then-Governor Marvin Mandel, who later became a member of the Institute's board of directors. Under Governor Mandel, state government was reorganized to bring 250 agencies with related functions together under 12 Cabinet-level departments.
