Governor Hogan To Receive Institute’s Carroll Award

Nov 2, 2016

ROCKVILLE, MD (November 2, 2016) – The Maryland Public Policy Institute today announced that Maryland Governor Larry Hogan is the 2016 recipient of the Charles Carroll of Carrollton Award.  The award is given to those who most embody the virtues of Charles Carroll, a Maryland farmer, member of the Continental Congress and signatory to the Declaration of Independence.

The Institute’s president, Christopher B. Summers, will present Governor Hogan with the award this Thursday evening at the Institute’s 15th anniversary reception and dinner.  To register for the event, click here.

“Like Charles Carroll, Governor Hogan was a successful businessman who entered public service because he believed government had lost touch with the people,” said Summers.  “Governor Hogan is an excellent choice for this award due to his unwavering commitment to making government more accountable to the governed.”

Carroll was the only Roman Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence and one of Maryland’s first U.S. senators. He also served 19 years in the Maryland Senate and helped establish the state’s government. Carroll was a great champion of individual freedoms, particularly religious tolerance.
